Patient Care Technician-PCT- Patient Care Tech-ED-Part Time-Days (12 hrs/wk)

About the Role

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient's highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

Join our 26-bed Emergency Department, providing excellent care to our community 24/7. We are a highly motivated, hardworking team with a nurse-to-patient ratio generally at 1:4. Our care team includes patient care technicians, paramedics, and patient support associates. This role offers the opportunity to care for a large variety of illnesses and injuries, as there are no other trauma-rated or pediatric-specific emergency departments in our immediate area.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy and blood cultures
• Assist with enteral feedings
• Provide wound care
• Remove IVs and Foleys
• Perform tracheostomy care and suctioning
• Additional duties as assigned, including PCA responsibilities

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• CNA/CPTC certification, enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school, or current Mercy caregiver preferred
• No prior experience required — we provide training

Training & Development

• Our PCA/PCT Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship, offering comprehensive, hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment
• If you do not have prior experience, Mercy provides a 175-hour training program (meeting Department of Health and Senior Services standards) to be completed within 90 days of hire
• BLS Certification required within 1 month of hire
• Competencies to be completed within 3 months of hire
• Advancement opportunities available through our career ladder from PCA to PCT and beyond

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting
• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties

Preferred backgrounds: EMT, Paramedic, Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT).
