Responsibilities

  • Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Answer patient call lights, answer phones, assist visitors, perform purposeful hourly rounding.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learn patient safe handling skills, assist in ambulation, assist in transferring, lifting, and repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
  • Basic Nursing Care / ADLs: Provide basic care including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc., under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Assist with room set up, welcoming new patients, discharging and/or transferring patients, providing patient/family orientation, transporting/escorting patients.
  • Procedures and Treatments: Accurately complete and document patient care activities, explain and perform procedures, notify appropriate personnel of responses and questions, collect non-sterile specimens, perform point of care patient blood sugar testing, promote and maintain skin integrity.
  • Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remain with a patient as needed to keep the patient safe.
  • Department Specific Tasks: Support the nursing team by performing indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Requirements: Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by either American Heart Association; if not current or does not have certification, required to be obtained within the employee’s introductory period (within 90 days of hire date).
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize, ability to receive and follow through on directions; demonstrates concern for and commitment to the welfare of our patient and families; required to attend an in-depth orientation regarding patient care skill tasks; trained and expected to observe all fire and safety procedures and patient experience standards.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting throughout the shift.

Technical Skills

  • Basic computer skills required.
