Responsibilities
- Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors.
- Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learning patient safe handling skills for ambulation and transferring, lifting, or repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
- Basic Nursing Care / ADLs: Assisting patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc., under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
- Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Ensuring patient safety during transfers and repositioning.
- Procedures and Treatments: Completing and documenting patient care activities, explaining and performing procedures under the direction of the nurse, notifying appropriate personnel of responses and questions, collecting non-sterile specimens, and performing point-of-care patient blood sugar testing.
- Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remaining with a patient to ensure their safety as directed by the RN or LPN.
- Department Specific Tasks: Supporting the nursing team with indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results, etc.
Requirements
- Education: Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by either American Heart Association if not current or not obtained within the employee’s introductory period (within 90 days of hire date).
- Experience: No experience required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize, ability to receive and follow through on directions; demonstrates concern for and commitment to the welfare of patients and families; trained and expected to observe all fire and safety procedures and patient experience standards.
Qualifications
- Physical Demands: When in the clinical environment, must utilize appropriate patient movement equipment for patient-lifting and transfers when the transfer is a non-emergency situation. In an urgent event, may need to assist with lifting up to 50 pounds. When applicable, wear an N95 mask/PAPR and other PPE.
- Technical Skills: Basic computer skills required.
