Patient Care Tech, Day Shift, Full Time

About the role

Sentara Careplex Hospital is hiring a Full-time Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Medicine Unit in Hampton, VA. This position offers a day shift schedule from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, including rotating weekends, with 36 hours per week.

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, and performs tasks such as vital signs, mobility and ambulation assistance, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal. The role involves complying with patient safety practices under the direction of a professional RN nurse, observing patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, and documenting changes accurately and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and support for daily living activities
• Perform vital signs, mobility and ambulation assistance
• Conduct phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and EKG testing
• Remove peripheral IVs and collect specimens
• Insert and remove foley catheters
• Comply with patient safety practices under RN supervision
• Observe and document patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions
• Report any changes in patient condition to nursing or medical staff

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with one of the following:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
• Emergency Services certification (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic)
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT
• Current work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
