Patient Care Assistant - Surgical Unit

About the role

Patient Care Assistant (PCA) responsible for providing continuous observation and individual care to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients closely and respond promptly to any signs of distress or changes in condition.
• Perform direct patient care tasks such as taking vital signs and transporting patients.
• Maintain a safe environment by following protocols and providing de-escalation interventions when needed.
• Document observations, interventions, and pertinent information accurately in electronic medical records.
• Stock linens and supplies, prioritize tasks, and alert nursing staff as necessary.
• Maintain professionalism and a calm demeanor for patients and families.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum one year of healthcare experience preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and electronic medical records such as EPIC preferred.
• Ability to remain attentive, alert, and maintain a professional presence.

Schedule

Onsite, full-time role in a surgical unit, including weekend and holiday rotations, with shifts from 7:00pm to 7:30am.
