Job Responsibilities

  • Aids nursing and center personnel in pre-op and recovery activities, including bed making, stocking linen, removing soiled linen, removing trash and sharps containers, cleaning up spills, escorting patients to their transportation, taking vital signs, stocking, cleaning, and limited clerical work.
  • Assists nursing personnel in all areas of the GI Unit as directed by R.N., including helping patients dress and taking vital signs during the admission process.
  • Aids in the discharge process by assisting patients to dress and/or escorting them to their mode of transportation.
  • Cleans stretchers and all patient contact items between patients, as well as performs other light housekeeping duties as required, including proper disposal of garbage and linen, cleaning staff lounges, cleaning ice scoops, and other cleaning duties according to policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrates understanding of unit patient flow by ensuring efficient and safe movement and placement of stretchers throughout the unit.
  • Performs clerical work as requested by the R.N., restocks supplies in Pre-op/PACU areas, distributes linen, and orders supplies as directed.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and reports to the charge nurse/manager when leaving and returning to work.
  • Shows tact, respect, and courtesy when dealing with other health team members and responds to patients in a kind, sympathetic manner.
  • Utilizes constructive means to avoid friction and promotes an atmosphere of mutual trust, acceptance, and respect.
  • Reports serious or questionable matters using appropriate channels and complies with safety and emergency procedures consistent with Center policy.
  • Maintains a hazard-free environment, utilizes proper techniques and body mechanics when performing lifting duties, and protects the patient, self, and others from environmental hazards.
  • Complies with Center policies, including respecting the privacy and confidentiality of the patient, and adheres to personnel policies.
  • Maintains personal absenteeism at 3% or less excluding holidays and vacation time and complies with proper procedures for sickness, absenteeism, lateness, overtime, and special requests for time off per policy.
  • Complies with departmental dress code and participates in unit cost containment measures.
  • Utilizes supplies safely and economically and maintains work time productively.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years hospital or surgery center experience.
