Patient Care Assistant | Cardiac Surgical Stepdown | MGH

About the role

The Cardiac Surgical Stepdown unit at The General Hospital Corporation Mass General Brigham is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to assist patients with their daily needs and support the clinical team.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including bathing, dressing, and eating assistance.
• Takes patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
• Documents patient care in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Aids in food tray setup and feeding, as needed.
• Ensures patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately.
• Retrieves and sets up equipment, cleans between uses, and reports malfunctions.
• Assists with patient admissions and discharges.
• Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members.
• Communicates effectively with nursing staff and patients.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• Experience working in patient care/elder care, 0-1 year preferred.
• Basic Life Support [BLS] Certified.
• National Certification as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong patient/customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Proficient in computer skills to work with electronic medical records.

Schedule

Rotating shifts: Days (7am-3pm, 7am-7pm), Nights (7pm-7am, 11pm-7am), and Holidays rotating schedule.
