About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports nursing staff in delivering patient care, performing clerical tasks, maintaining the unit environment, and managing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Responds to patient calls within 10 minutes and anticipates patient needs.
• Makes rounds to reduce patient calls and maintains positive interactions with patients and visitors.
• Smiles and is pleasant during all interactions, providing necessary data and implementing interventions on the patient's plan of care.
• Performs essential skills to ensure positive patient outcomes, including daily weight, I & O, hygiene, and safety checks.
• Ambulates patients every 2 hours, assists with meals, and provides appropriate care.
• Documents all care provided, including vital signs, intake and output, meal percentages, equipment used, and patient care.
• Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and RNs, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to departmental policies.
• Ensures the unit is in continuous survey readiness, maintains a clean and organized environment, and reports significant changes in patient condition.
• Collaborates with RNs to address patient care needs and data collection.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited Certified Nursing Program.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the Department of Public Health (grandfathered for those hired/transferred prior to August 2016).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training certification from the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Qualifications

• One year experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
