Position Responsibilities
- Communicate with patients regarding payment arrangements.
- Follow up on outstanding balances.
- Respond to questions related to statements and account activity over the phone and in person.
- Manage and work a variety of account queues, including self-pay, lien, liability, and bankruptcy accounts.
- Prepare and send claims to attorneys and other agencies.
- Run and reconcile monthly reports related to pre-pays and co-pays.
- Aid patients with payment plans and financial assistance programs.
- Follow up on liability determinations, non-sufficient fund checks, and returned mail.
- Research and update patient information as needed.
- Prepare and send correspondence to patients, attorneys, and insurance companies regarding account status.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in billing, collections, or insurance in a medical office is preferred.
- A strong understanding of customer service principles.
- Comfortable working in Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel).
- Familiarity with insurance payers and medical terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- A compassionate and patient-focused approach.
