About the Role

Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists is seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist to support our self-pay accounts receivable efforts. This role involves managing patient account inquiries, following up on outstanding balances, resolving billing questions, and collecting payments. You will also provide cost estimates for surgical procedures, ensure accurate payment collection prior to appointments, and maintain precise financial records.

After 90 days, there is an opportunity for a hybrid-remote schedule. This is not a 100% remote position. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Spokane, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Create cost estimates for minor and major surgical procedures based on insurance plan and benefits information, and work with patients to secure payment according to department policies.
  • Accurately post insurance and patient payments to accounts in a timely manner and identify problem accounts for escalation.
  • Provide a positive patient experience through professional communication, timely resolution of inquiries, and adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Identify and resolve overpayments or duplicate payments, and process refunds according to policies.
  • Review delinquent accounts on the monthly aging report and initiate collection actions to resolve unpaid balances.
  • Escalate patient complaints to the appropriate individual or department based on the nature of the complaint.
  • Meet and maintain department performance metrics for quality and production.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • At least one year of prior medical billing, payment posting, coding, or surgery estimating experience.
  • Experience with healthcare information systems, such as electronic health records and practice management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification with AAPC.
  • Some payment posting or billing experience.

Skills

  • Clear, concise, and professional communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, patients, and external parties.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, modern office equipment, and EMR applications.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and track multiple tasks accurately; manage multiple demands efficiently; work independently and collaboratively; and demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform basic reconciliation and balancing.

Pay

Wage Range: $18.15 to $31.28 per hour.
