Patient Accounts Specialist

Position Responsibilities

• Communicate with patients regarding payment arrangements
• Follow up on outstanding balances
• Respond to questions related to statements and account activity over the phone and in person
• Manage and work a variety of account queues, including self-pay, lien, liability, and bankruptcy accounts
• Ensure accurate documentation and proper account handling within the system
• Prepare and send claims to attorneys and other agencies
• Run and reconcile monthly reports related to pre-pays and co-pays
• Assist patients with payment plans and financial assistance programs
• Follow up on liability determinations, non-sufficient fund checks, and returned mail
• Research and update patient information as needed
• Prepare and send correspondence to patients, attorneys, and insurance companies regarding account status

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in billing, collections, or insurance in a medical office is preferred
• A strong understanding of customer service principles
• Comfortable working in Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel)
• Familiarity with insurance payers and medical terminology
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• A compassionate and patient-focused approach

Pay

The pay range displayed for this position represents the pay range for all positions that are classified in this job grade. Individual pay will depend on a wide range of factors such as candidate skills, experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and alignment with company benchmarks.
