PATIENT ACCESS SPECIALIST
Full time, varied shifts (flex, float) with weekends and holidays rotation. 80 hours per pay period. Possible sign-on bonus eligible.
About the role
The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for financial counseling, collecting co-pays and deductibles, and providing financial assistance education to patients and their families. They perform stat registering, scheduling appointments, completing registration by collecting and entering pertinent financial and demographic information into the ADT system, verifying insurance benefit information, generating ABNs, reviewing orders for compliance, completing MSP, obtaining financial and treatment consents, placing ordered medical procedures, and obtaining pre-certification when applicable—all while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
The role requires demonstrating customer focus with patience, composure, and compassion, as well as the ability to deal with ambiguity by effectively coping with change. Strong time management, interpersonal skills, and peer relationship support are essential. The specialist must possess expert functional/technical skills to provide financial assessment and evaluation for each patient, comprehend the hospital’s financial policies, apply them to patients, and secure payment for hospital liability.
Patient Access Specialists must maintain excellent customer service standards, effectively communicate with physicians, physician offices, patients, and coworkers, and ensure patient confidentiality and privacy rights.
Requirements
- High School completion / GED (minimum required)
- Associates Degree preferred in healthcare or related business field
- Proficient in Windows-based computer technology, including keyboarding and typing at least 25 wpm
- Medical Terminology certification preferred
Experience
- 1 - 3 years of job-related experience (minimum required)
- Preferred experience: Customer service, general clerical/office, hospital, medical office/clinic, or insurance company
- Applicable class work may be substituted for previous work experience
