Patient Access Specialist
About the role
The Patient Access Technician (PAT) is an exciting opportunity at MultiCare, responsible for ensuring accurate patient admission and registration. This intermediate-level clerical position allows you to apply your professional service-orientation, good judgment, and independent thinking in your daily work functions.
Responsibilities
- Assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
- Obtain inpatient bed assignments and processes inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
- Pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
- Obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system in order to notify other areas
- Complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic, insurance, and/or third-party liability information
- Perform eligibility verification and resolve any discrepancies, determine the need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary
Requirements
- Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance, Medical Billing & Insurance OR
- One (1) year of experience performing any combination of admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration, customer service or billing duties required; healthcare setting preferred

Founded in 1896, MultiCare Deaconess Hospital is a 388-bed acute-care hospital serving the greater Spokane region. Deaconess is home to a Level III Trauma Center, Certified Chest Pain Center, Primary Stroke Center, Maternal Fetal Medicine program and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Pay and Benefits
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $21.07 - $31.60 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
