About the role
We're looking for someone who can greet patients and guests courteously, initiate scheduling, and manage the registration and admission process. You'll also handle financial aspects, ensuring accurate insurance verification and patient payments.
Responsibilities
- Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
- Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.
- Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
- Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
- Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
- Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and resolve conflicts professionally.
- Adapt to different patient populations, respecting privacy and providing clear explanations.
- Handle other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or similar customer service environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with an associate’s degree being preferred.
- Experience in front-line registration, financial counseling, or similar roles involving direct customer/patient interaction.
- Preferred certifications include CHAM, CHAA, or a Medical Assistant certification.
Qualifications
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and information retrieval.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in presenting information clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and software packages specific to the role.
- Clerical skills and technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, referral and authorization processes, and current knowledge of federal, state, and local billing regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to solve practical problems and handle high-stress situations.
- Excellent decision-making skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and exercise sound judgment in handling/escalating difficult situations.
