Patient Access Representative -PRN Ochsner ST Anne Hospital - Rotating Weekends and Holidays- Emergency Department/Business Office - various shifts

About the role

We're looking for someone who can greet patients and guests, handle check-ins, and manage the registration process. You'll also help collect payments and ensure smooth patient interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
  • Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information.
  • Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
  • Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
  • Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
  • Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy and communicating effectively.
  • Other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or similar role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to role.
  • Clerical skills and current knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, referral and authorization processes, and billing regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to solve practical problems under high stress.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in handling/escalating difficult situations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or similar customer service-related environment.
  • Preferred certifications: CHAM, CHAA, Medical Assistant certification.
