As a Patient Access Representative (PAR) I, you’ll be the friendly face and helpful guide that patients and families turn to when they need assistance. Whether you’re checking them in at the Emergency Department or helping them navigate the registration process, you’ll be providing an essential service with a smile. Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients like a pro: ensure their registration process goes smoothly and stress-free, whether for routine procedures or emergencies.
  • Provide stellar customer service: be the first point of contact for patients and families, making them feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their visit.
  • Support patient flow: work hand-in-hand with other departments to ensure seamless registration and smooth transitions for both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
  • Be a problem-solving rockstar: verify patient details, handle complex situations, and tackle any questions to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Jump between areas: assist across different areas of the hospital, including the Emergency Department, Outpatient, and Inpatient Registration.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience, whether in retail, hospitality, or healthcare. Completion of the UH Patient Access Rep/Patient Scheduler Apprentice Program is a plus.
  • Top-notch communication skills for interviewing patients, families, and coordinating with staff.
  • Strong writing and keyboarding skills to capture accurate details and process information efficiently.
  • Ability to learn and grow: complete a Patient Access Representative II competency exam within one year and be ready to advance.
  • Problem-solving skills to address insurance questions and patient concerns with confidence and professionalism.
  • Attention to detail for handling important patient information thoroughly and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of patient contact experience, even in an office setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (training provided if needed).
  • Experience in healthcare, such as in a hospital, business, or insurance office.
