Patient Access Representative, Inpatient Follow Up (Part Time Days, 12p-8p)
About the Role
Patient Access Representatives at Stony Brook Medicine support the Revenue Cycle, Compliance, and Patient Experience by performing specialized duties in Registration, Financial Screening and Verification, and patient throughput. The Inpatient Follow-Up role focuses on completing inpatient registrations, insurance verification, securing regulatory signatures, and collecting inpatient point-of-service payments at the bedside. This position requires professional interaction with hospital and clinical staff while promoting a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Complete patient registration at inpatient bedside, including required demographic, regulatory information, and signatures, and confirm insurance eligibility.
- Review registrations for completeness and correctness; support registration areas as needed.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, including securing consents and regulatory signatures from patients or their designee.
- Provide information on financial care counseling resources for self-pay patients.
- Assist in audits of regulatory documents and signatures.
- Maneuver a workstation on wheels through patients’ rooms within designated registration areas, such as the emergency department and/or inpatient units.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree with one year of experience in healthcare, hospitality, or a related industry, or two years of demonstrated excellence in a patient-facing healthcare role (e.g., medical office).
- Excellence in verbal and written communication, computing, and multitasking skills.
- Experience working with customers, including those under stress (e.g., sick patients and distressed family members).
- Strong PC and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
- Availability to work some holidays, variable pass days, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Billing, Accounts Receivable, or Hospital Patient Access/Registration experience.
- Experience with insurance reimbursement.
- Familiarity with medical insurance benefits and EMR/computerized registration/financial/IT systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative at a Medical Center.

- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Pay
The anticipated pay range for this position is $50,122 - $55,338 per year (prorated). The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience.
Schedule
- Part-time.
- Variable pass days and weekend availability required.
- Some holidays may be required.
