Patient Access Representative I

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors.
  • Verifies insurance benefits and coverage.
  • Collects and verifies patient and insurance demographics.
  • Provides cost estimates and pre-certifications.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting/billing.
  • Communicates with patients regarding insurance coverage and financial assistance.
  • Maintains department scheduling templates.
  • Assists with incomplete patient registration paperwork.
  • Distributes admission documents if required.
  • Affixes signatures and performs clerical duties as necessary.
  • Collaborates with the Care Management team and Social Work departments.
  • Trains new Admitting staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a high school level education.
  • Experience in a clerical, customer service, or receptionist position, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of applicable hospital and physician billing requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Epic system.
