About the Role

The Financial Counselor ensures reliable cash flow, maximizes revenue, minimizes bad debt, and promotes positive public relations. They screen patients for healthcare coverage and financial assistance, counsel on financial responsibilities, and assess eligibility for programs like Free Care or Payment Plans. The role involves maximizing collections, reducing accounts receivable losses, and collaborating with departments to provide financial options. They maintain up-to-date knowledge of admission and registration requirements, identify outstanding balances, and function as a system superuser. Proactive process improvement and participation in special projects are key duties.

Responsibilities

  • Screen patients for healthcare coverage and financial assistance.
  • Counsel patients on financial responsibilities and assess eligibility for programs (e.g., Free Care or Payment Plans).
  • Maximize collections and reduce accounts receivable losses.
  • Collaborate with departments to provide financial options for patients.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of admission and registration requirements.
  • Identify and address outstanding balances.
  • Serve as a system superuser for financial systems.
  • Engage in proactive process improvement and participate in special projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Typing speed of 35+ words per minute.
  • Flexibility in work hours and ability to train onsite.
  • Full vaccination status.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
  • Background in hospital registration or patient account services.
