About the role

The Patient Access Representative assists patients with the check-in/arrival process. They have in-depth knowledge in all processes of the reception front desk and arrival process. They work with physicians on coordinating new patients for their individual schedules, assist new patients in collecting all medical records and history, and schedule new patients with the appropriate physician based on care type. They also provide insurance information to the Financial Counselor Representative for verification.

Responsibilities

  • Registers and admits patients following appropriate policy, ensuring the use of two patient identifiers: Name and Date of Birth.
  • Ensures all patients are checked into hospital systems and obtain complete and accurate patient demographics and financial information.
  • Inputs data into the computer system according to standard operating procedures.
  • Explains hospital policies regarding insurance benefits, personal items, and valuables to patients.
  • Collects and records patient payments and completes ledgers for all check and cash payments.
  • Schedules MD orders and ensures they are complete (a. Test Ordered, b. Diagnosis, c. MD Signature).
  • Identifies and selects appropriate language in ADT and obtains and documents necessary language documents.
  • Verifies and documents insurance eligibility and confirms and documents benefits.
  • Ensures pre-certifications and authorizations are in place and follows transfusion free policy.
  • Maintains accuracy score above 89% and assists with other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
  • Comfortable with computers and medical terminology.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cerner, most insurance types, and basic computer programs.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service behavior.

Qualifications

  • One year of hospital experience preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
  • Comfortable with computers and medical terminology.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cerner, most insurance types, and basic computer programs.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service behavior.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $22.88 - $35.55.

Schedule
