About the role
We're seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Your role will be to greet patients and guests courteously, initiate scheduling, and ensure accurate patient information is maintained.
Responsibilities
- Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
- Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information.
- Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
- Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
- Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
- Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy and adapting explanations of services or procedures.
- Communicate with patients and family members to improve patient satisfaction.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or similar role involving direct customer or patient interaction.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with an associate’s degree being preferred.
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and information retrieval.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in presenting information clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to solve practical problems under high stress.
- Excellent decision-making skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in handling/escalating difficult situations.
Qualifications
- Must have certifications in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or a Medical Assistant certification (or other medical specialty-based certification).
- Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, referral and authorization processes, and current federal, state, and local billing regulations.
- Experience with electronic verification, telephone, or web application for insurance verification.
