Pathology Support Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for intake calls from Children's providers, external consults, and parent inquiries.
  • Routes calls to pertinent lab areas or Pathologists to obtain clinical expertise for patients.
  • Captures and compiles necessary patient and case information for Pathologists.
  • Manages CAP proficiency test process.
  • Processes laboratory reports to send to outside providers.
  • Coordinates processes and procedures to ensure efficient operation of the Pathology department.
  • Coordinates specimen slide or block retrieval for Pathologists.
  • Serves as the main contact for autopsy processing and reporting.
  • Responsible for copying and faxing documents to designated recipients.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Proficient secretarial skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in the English language with excellent grammar and spelling.
  • Experience in health care preferred.
  • Experience typing at a speed of 55 WPM and excellent transcription skills.
  • Experience working with various levels within an organization.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or similar software.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years of administrative assistant/secretarial experience.
  • No certification required.
  • No supervisory experience required.
