Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of tasks in support of pathologists and other allied healthcare providers.
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of all documents, tests ordered, and patient case reports which allows the pathologists to focus on patient care.
- Transcribes pathology reports as well as research and administrative documents.
- Covers patient case correspondence/materials, orders tests and stains for cases, answers telephones, and provides related follow-through.
- Coordinates case conference materials and maintains consultant calendar.
- Maintains work unit standard operating procedures and reviews and ensures accuracy of those procedures.
- Serves as a resource and mentor to others by training, educating, and mentoring both new and existing members of the work unit.
- Troubleshoots and resolves problems.
- Works independently and in a team, exhibits high motivation, and demonstrates initiative, proficiency, and good judgment.
Qualifications
- Completion of a formal medical secretary and/or transcriptionist program and three years' recent experience or 5 years or more of secretarial experience.
- Experience with computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and electronic calendaring/scheduling systems.
- Successful completion of a Mayo medical transcription test.
- Excellent application of grammar, punctuation, and English usage.
- Able to understand diverse accents and speech variations.
- Ability to prioritize work and follow through independently, support a variety of consultants, and handle an assortment of tasks.
- High-level skill in organization, clerical aptitude, attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal relations.
- Good decision-making and judgment.
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work collaboratively and professionally with a variety of work areas.
