About the role

This position involves diagnosing diseases through laboratory techniques on Fine Needle Aspirations and Non-Gynecological specimens, including microscopic examination of tissue sections, smears, and cytospins from various body fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Identify etiology, morphological changes, and clinical significance of slides.
  • Provide diagnostic reports and consult with physicians on test interpretation and treatments.
  • Participate in proficiency testing, quality improvement, and professional development activities.
  • Train and educate laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
  • Capture photomicrographs of diagnostic significance and collaborate on difficult cases.
  • May testify as an expert witness and ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved residency in anatomic and/or clinical pathology.
  • Board certification in Cytopathology and certification/qualification equivalent to the American Board of Pathology.
  • Active medical license in the relevant state and successful completion of a color discrimination test.
  • Adherence to continuing education requirements and maintaining medical staff privileges.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Requires physical activity such as standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual and color discrimination abilities are necessary.
  • Work setting is well-lit and temperature-controlled, with occasional interruptions.
  • Adherence to safety protocols to minimize exposure risks.
