Patent Agent or Technical Advisor - Electrical Engineering (Seattle, WA; Palo Alto, CA; Denver, CO; Salt Lake City, UT) (#4027)
Dorsey’s Patent group is growing its existing Japanese-language team. We are seeking a Patent Agent or Technical Advisor with fluency in Japanese and at least one year of patent prosecution experience to be located in our Seattle, Palo Alto, Denver, or Salt Lake City offices. Patent bar-eligible candidates with the right technology background and writing experience will also be considered.
About the role
The ideal candidate will understand and have the ability to write in English about electrical technologies, including circuit and logic designs, and semiconductor structures and fabrication processes. All relevant technical backgrounds will be considered. Strong academic credentials and USPTO admission or eligibility are required.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inventor interviews in Japanese and English in preparation for drafting original patent applications.
- Draft patent applications in English.
- Prosecute patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), including drafting responses to office actions and conducting examiner interviews (or assist with same if not yet admitted to USPTO).
- Draft correspondence to Japanese clients and translate Japanese correspondence to English as needed.
- Prosecute patent applications in foreign jurisdictions via communication with foreign associates.
- Work closely with our collaborative team of attorneys, agents, paralegals, and legal assistants to ensure excellence in client service at all times.
Requirements
- At least one year of agent/technical advisor experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- Background in semiconductor fabrication, structures, or devices and/or electrical engineering.
- Strong academic performance.
- Fluent in Japanese and capable of conducting inventor interviews in Japanese and English using appropriate business etiquette in both languages.
- USPTO admission (for Patent Agent) or USPTO eligibility (for Technical Advisor).

Pay
The pay range for this position in Seattle, Denver, or Palo Alto is an annual salary of $85,000 to $134,000. Actual pay will be dependent upon a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location and may fall outside of the range indicated.
