This position assists customers by identifying needed items, using parts catalogs and computer systems, billing merchandise orders, and maintaining inventory control. Responsibilities include distributing special order parts, receiving warranty parts, and maintaining shelf stock.
Responsibilities
- Work with the parts team to increase department profitability.
- Identify the model, serial number, and type of part needed.
- Use catalogs, John Deere Vision, or computer systems to find replacement part stock numbers and prices.
- Order and receive parts from John Deere and other vendors.
- Fill customer orders from stock.
- Ensure technicians receive the correct parts in a timely manner.
- Receive and ship parts in accordance with DOT guidelines.
- Track lost sales.
- Stay current on new product bulletins and catalogs.
- Prepare computerized invoices.
- Receive payment or obtain credit authorization.
- Advise customers on part substitutions or modifications when replacements are unavailable.
- Pick up and deliver parts for customers and vendors as needed.
- Maintain periodical parts returns.
- Attend training classes and store meetings.
- Examine returned parts to determine if defective; exchange parts or refund money.
- Mark and store parts in the stockroom according to a prearranged system.
- Tag defective merchandise with date, hours used, serial number, model number, correct part number, and place in warranty bins.
- Return all unsold merchandise immediately to the correct stock location.
- Notify the Parts Manager of discrepancies between inventory records and shelf quantities.
- Maintain a clean and safe operating department.
- Assist with annual physical inventory.
- Control expenses to increase profitability.
- Adhere to safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and clients.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License
- Forklift Certification
- Parts counter experience
- One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six years of related experience and/or training
- Highly developed organization and communication skills
- Broad-based computer skills

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, statistics, and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
