About the role

The Tax Senior Manager, Partnerships at BDO is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, particularly those related to partnerships. This includes understanding and applying complex partnership taxation issues such as section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis, and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustments, and TRA calculations. The role also involves developing and driving process improvement initiatives, maintaining client relationships, and acting as a mentor to junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and develops an in-depth understanding of partnership taxation issues and opportunities.
  • Applies tax knowledge and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions that maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing client taxes, while managing risk.
  • Implements applicable Firm strategies and manages client expectations.
  • Develops and leads marketing campaigns, if applicable to the role.
  • Manages workload, schedules, and provides performance feedback to associates, senior associates, and managers.
  • Trains associates, senior associates, and managers on research skills and how to use current software tools.
  • Acts as a career advisor to associates, senior associates, and managers.
  • Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.

Requirements

Eight (8) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience are required. Prior supervisory experience and specialized partnership experience are also required. Private equity experience, both fund and portfolio company levels, is preferred. CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) is preferred. Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role are also preferred.
