About the role

The Tax Senior Manager, Partnerships at BDO is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, particularly in partnership-specific areas such as section 704(b) and taxable income allocations. This role involves applying knowledge to understand and mitigate potential partnership taxation issues, assisting in the preparation of partnership-specific computations, and participating in the marketing and business development of the group.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and develops an in-depth understanding of partnership taxation issues and opportunities.
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of partnership taxation issues and opportunities.
  • Organizes and conducts effective external CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists, at least once per year.
  • Trains and mentors associates, senior associates, and managers on research skills and how to frame tax issues for analysis.
  • Applies tax knowledge and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions that maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing client taxes, while managing risk.
  • Manages client expectations and implements applicable Firm strategies.
  • Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, such as by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.
  • Researches and implements tax strategies, including experimenting with promising new strategies and ideas.
  • Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.
  • Schedules and manages workload of associates, senior associates, and managers.
  • Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates, senior associates, and managers.
  • Reviews work prepared by associates, senior associates, and managers and provides review comments.
  • Acts as a career advisor to associates, senior associates, and managers.

Requirements

Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience are required. Prior supervisory experience and specialized partnership experience are also required. Private equity experience, both fund and portfolio company levels, is preferred. A CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) is preferred. Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role are also preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred.
  • Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.

Pay

National Range: $99,750 - $262,500
