Participant Support Specialist (Adult Emergency Shelter)

About the role
You’ll be on the front lines of community care, ensuring daily operations run smoothly and residents feel safe. Your work directly creates a safe, clean, and welcoming sanctuary for vulnerable adults.
Responsibilities
- Supervise resident activities, de-escalate behavioral issues, and maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment through light housekeeping and maintenance.
- Welcome new residents, assign beds, explain program rules, monitor supplies, and maintain accurate daily logs and incident reports.
- Provide vital "awake" shift coverage and maintain strict grounds security to protect residents and teammates.
- Contribute direct feedback on shelter policies to help improve services for the community.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the US.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends (based on shift choice).
- Background check required post-job offer (Families in Transition is a "Recovery Friendly" employer).
A compassionate, professional demeanor and a calm head under pressure are essential. Excellent customer service skills and an understanding of housing safety concerns are key. Preferred but not required: an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
Pay
Competitive base pay with shift differentials:
- 2nd Shift (Friday–Tuesday or Tuesday–Saturday): $21.00/hour (includes $1.00 differential).
- 3rd Shift (Friday–Tuesday or Thursday–Monday): $22.00/hour (includes $1.50 differential).
