About the role
The City of College Park's Department of Youth, Family, and Senior Services seeks a compassionate, resourceful, and dedicated Emergency Support Specialist to help residents facing food insecurity, homelessness, utility shutoffs, rental assistance needs, and other financial hardships. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping vulnerable populations, skilled in crisis intervention, and committed to connecting clients with the resources they need to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities
- Conduct client assessments to identify immediate needs and eligibility for assistance programs.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals and families experiencing emergencies.
- Assist clients with accessing food, housing, utility assistance, transportation, and other essential services.
- Develop service plans and connect clients to community resources and support networks.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records, case notes, and documentation.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with landlords, utility companies, social service agencies, and other community partners.
- Monitor client progress and provide follow-up support as needed.
- Collaborate with internal staff and external organizations to coordinate services.
- Participate in outreach activities and community resource development.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in human services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience in social services, case management, crisis intervention, or customer support.
- A valid driver's license in their state of residence with a satisfactory driving record.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in high-stress situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred).
Pay
The starting salary range is $31.79–$33.40 per hour, depending on qualifications.
