Part-Time Web Designer/Developer

About the Role

This part-time Web Designer/Developer position is a key role within the Communications Department, reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications and External Engagement. The role focuses on the design, organization, functionality, accessibility, navigation, and overall usability of the University Health Center’s (UHC) website, the Well-being Resources website, and other sites in the Well-being Resources Portfolio. As the primary technical resource for web development, maintenance, and support, this position applies advanced technical knowledge to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex web, database, hosting, and application issues. The role involves managing multiple web-based projects and providing technical recommendations to leadership on website functionality, accessibility, user experience, and related technologies.

Responsibilities

• Web Design and Development (50% of time):
  • Research and implement current trends in web design.
  • Ensure UHC websites are clearly presented, aesthetically designed, user-friendly, accurate, and current.
  • Identify new and ongoing web-based needs.
  • Design and maintain database architecture for Health Center and Student Affairs applications.
  • Troubleshoot hosting solutions for Health Center and Student Affairs websites and applications.
  • Develop and maintain 3rd-party vendor API integrations for Health Center systems.
  • Update and maintain locally hosted code repositories related to Health Center operations.
  • Maintain and support cloud-hosted resources, databases, integrations, and hosting environments; recommend improvements and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Analyze and resolve website functionality, accessibility, and performance issues across multiple platforms.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot website hosting environments, databases, and content management systems.
• Communication and Marketing (25% of time):
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Communications, IT, UHC staff, and stakeholders to develop web-based processes.
  • Provide staff demonstrations, tutorials, troubleshooting, and general assistance for websites and applications.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with campus stakeholders, including executive-level administrators.
  • Assess and propose applicable UHC and Student Affairs Azure/AWS resources, server/database systems, and project-based access.
  • Assist with graphic design, photography, and other marketing communications tasks as needed.
  • Produce video content for the Health Center and Student Affairs.
  • Identify appropriate technology tools and resources to support program objectives.
  • Provide technical training, demonstrations, and support to website contributors and departmental users.
• Data Collection and Analysis (20% of time):
  • Partner with the IT Department to assess web and patient satisfaction data, refining processes based on user needs.
  • Consult with staff to identify tracking needs and implement software for routine web statistics.
  • Identify trends to improve content and service quality.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data analytics and automated systems to enhance Health Center transparency and efficiency.
  • Integrate, monitor, and generate reports for Student Affairs website analytics.
• Professional Development (5% of time):

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.
• Knowledge of full-stack JavaScript development and HTML in healthcare or higher education.
• Proficiency in Node, Angular, PHP, Python, PowerShell, HTML, CSS, XML, Ionic, WordPress, Firebase, and Apache.
• Experience with graphic design, video production, and strong writing/editing skills.
• Ability to perform precise, fine motor tasks and engage in close visual work.
• Effective communication skills, including speaking and active listening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of web design/development experience.
• Two to five years of experience as a web designer/developer.
• Experience with web development and design software.

Pay

$37.31 per hour.

This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position with an FTE of 0.4. Hours are to be determined. The proposed start date is September 15, 2026.
