Part-time Veterinary Technician - Emergency

About the role

As An Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment. You will triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. You will perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients. You will have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation. You will obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert the Veterinarian to changes and issues. You will identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR. You will properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration. You will be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels. You will place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters. You will have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers. You will have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience. You must have a valid license to practice veterinary technology in the state where you will be working. You must have at least one year of experience in an emergency or critical care setting. You must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You must be able to lift and move patients, and you must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends.

You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations with poise and professionalism. You must be able to communicate effectively with clients and veterinarians, and you must be able to work well under pressure. Pay

The pay range for this position is $25 - $35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is Weekends.
