BluePearl Pet Hospital at Katy, TX is hiring experienced Part-time Veterinary Technicians to work in their busy Emergency and Critical Care department. Shifts are Saturdays and Sundays.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, responsibilities include inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia, triaging emergency cases, performing digital radiography, managing vital signs, administering medications, performing phlebotomy, and maintaining feeding tubes and central line catheters. The position also involves mentoring and training colleagues, addressing client concerns with patience and empathy.
Responsibilities
- Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
- Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
- Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including proper positioning of patients.
- Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
- Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
- Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
- Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
- Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
- Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
- Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
- Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
Requirements
- Experience in a veterinary setting preferred.
- Current certification as a Veterinary Technician from a recognized organization.
- Knowledge of anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
- Ability to triage and manage emergency cases.
- Proficiency in digital radiography techniques.
- Understanding of normal vital sign ranges and the ability to interpret changes.
- Experience with CPR and the ability to perform it effectively.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Passion for mentoring and training others.
- Patience and empathy for clients and patients.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current certification as a Veterinary Technician from a recognized organization.
- At least 2 years of experience in a veterinary setting.
- Current CPR certification.
