Part-time Veterinary Kennel Technician

About the role

The kennel tech at Crete Veterinary Clinic is responsible for the care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of patients in the hospital, barns, and boarding facility outside of normal business hours. This position involves cleaning inside and outside the clinic, laundry, feeding/watering, walking dogs, and administering medications to patients.

Responsibilities

• Care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of patients in the hospital, barns, and boarding facility outside of normal business hours.
• Cleaning inside and outside the clinic, laundry, feeding/watering, walking dogs, and administering medications to patients.
• Proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior, and any issues that may arise while the animal is in our care.
• Moderate to heavy physical labor (moving large dogs, bags of litter, pet foods, scraping cattle pens, mucking out horse stalls, etc).
• Attending to sick, scared, and injured animals with sympathy and patience.
• Administering medications and recognizing abnormal conditions.
• Following oral and written directions and maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods.
• Proper methods of animal restraint.
• Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor.
• Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared, and injured animals.
• Ability to learn to administer medications and recognize abnormal conditions.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job.
