Part-time Veterinary Kennel Technician

About the role

The kennel tech position at Yukon Veterinary Hospital involves caring for, feeding, medicating, and cleaning hospitalized and boarding patients. Responsibilities also include restocking supplies, assisting with post-operative care, and administering medications under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of hospitalized and boarding patients
• Cleaning, laundry, bathing, and walking dogs
• Restocking hospital supplies
• Assisting with post-operative patients
• Assisting doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams
• Recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior, and any issues
• Training to clean and sterilize surgical instruments (optional)

Requirements

• Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods
• Proper methods of animal restraint
• Able to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
• Able to perform moderately heavy physical labor
• Able to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared, and injured animals
• Able to learn to administer medications and recognize abnormal conditions
• Able to understand and carry out oral and written directions
• Able to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job

Qualifications

• Previous animal handling experience required
