About the role

Virtual TVI provides educational vision services to school districts and private clients nationwide. We're hiring a licensed Teacher of the Visually Impaired who is also a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to join our team as an independent contractor, delivering direct and consult services to students with visual impairments. This role combines our standard virtual/hybrid TVI caseload with in-person district trips for assessments and services, with trips ranging from a single day up to two weeks of travel at a time. All travel expenses are paid.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and consult TVI services per students' IEPs (virtual or hybrid)
  • Travel to assigned districts for in-person O&M assessments and services, with trips ranging from 1 day to up to 2 weeks at a time
  • Provide ongoing support and training for staff
  • Write, revise, and update IEPs and progress reports per district policy
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Virtual TVI systems
  • Attend IEP, 504, Child Find, and triennial review meetings as needed
  • Collaborate with educational teams, parents, and students
  • Respond to emails/calls within 1 business day during school hours
  • Communicate proactively with your Virtual TVI supervisor on any issues, including travel logistics

Requirements

  • Active state certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (must maintain valid TVI license for the entire contract term in the states where you are providing regular TVI service)
  • Active Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a TVI preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a COMS preferred
  • Experience providing TVI services across assessment, IEP development, and direct instruction, preferably with some remote instruction experience
  • Willingness and ability to travel for in-person trips ranging from 1 day to up to 2 weeks at a time
  • Reliable internet, computer, and virtual platform proficiency
  • Professionalism and strong communication skills
  • Willingness to become licensed in additional states as caseload needs grow (licensure expenses reimbursed)
  • Availability during the school day (this position is NOT for anyone who holds a full-time job)
  • Availability to travel on weekends or holidays
