About the role
Strides Therapy & Educational Services is a leading provider of contract therapy and educational services dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students in schools. We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team supporting students within HCPS.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct vision instruction and consultative services to students with visual impairments, including support with: Braille instruction, Assistive technology, Compensatory skills, Functional vision needs, Academic accessibility, Independent living and organizational skills
- Work collaboratively with Special Educators, General Education Teachers, Orientation & Mobility Specialists, School Psychologists, SLPs, OTs, PTs, and related service providers to support student success and ensure appropriate educational accommodations and modifications.
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, families, school staff, and district personnel regarding student progress, services, accommodations, and recommendations.
- Stay current with best practices, assistive technology, Braille instruction methods, and educational strategies related to students with visual impairments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field
- Valid and current Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) certification/licensure
- Experience working with school-aged students with visual impairments preferred
- Braille proficiency strongly preferred
- Ability to manage an itinerant caseload across multiple school locations
- Strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills
