About the role

Teacher Of The Visually Impaired instructors are expected to work with a diverse population of students, providing a safe, orderly environment conducive to teaching and learning. They collaborate and consult with various stakeholders including school organizations, community organizations, therapists, doctors, colleagues, and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in Braille code.
  • Perform Functional Visual Evaluations and Learning Media Assessments.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders.
  • Record and report student progress.

Requirements

  • NYS Certification in Blind and Partially Sighted.
  • Preference given to candidates with Orientation and Mobility certification.
  • Candidates should possess a broad skill set of effective teaching and learning, including knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards and Assessments, curriculum content and accepted methods of instruction, up-to-date technology, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Promote equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments.
  • Ability to travel between W-FL BOCES sites and component districts.

Qualifications

Pay

$52,341 - $61,805, based on experience and demonstrated abilities.
