Job Summary
The Director of Transportation is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from designated locations. This role ensures compliance with all applicable laws, codes, and safety regulations, while supervising transportation staff and maintaining a high standard of service.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Prioritize three years of experience in transportation-related positions
- Must possess a valid Class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements
- Ability to work effectively with others and independently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with all vehicle systems; preference given to those with repair and maintenance capabilities
- Inspect buses after scheduled trips for fuel levels and cleanliness; prepare buses for next use as needed
- Provide training for bus drivers and transportation personnel when necessary
- Prepare and maintain detailed routing for special routes (e.g., special education, preschool)
- Maintain accurate records on all transportation activities and operations
- Ensure compliance with safety and code regulations
- Schedule extracurricular activity (ECA) and field trips using the appropriate documentation
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
