Part-Time Temporary Research Technician, Prescott Campus

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research and Data Analysis (Core Function)
  • Perform reduction, analysis, and interpretation of X-ray observations using HEASoft and related software tools.
  • Conduct X-ray spectral and timing analysis of accreting neutron stars.
  • Develop and utilize Python-based analysis workflows and shell scripting tools.
  • Ensure high-quality, reproducible scientific results that directly support ongoing funded research projects.

Scholarly Contributions

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to contextualize findings.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, conference presentations, and technical reports.
  • Aid in communicating research results to the broader scientific community.

Research Group Participation & Student Support

  • Actively participate in group meetings and collaborative discussions.
  • Support undergraduate student researchers in their projects as needed.
  • Contribute to maintaining research continuity and group productivity.

Professional Development & Outreach

  • Travel to and present research findings at professional conferences, workshops, or collaborative meetings.
  • Aid in strengthening and promoting astrophysics research at ERAU.
  • Develop clear, reusable documentation on X-ray data analysis methods to support future student researchers and enhance program sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Physics or Astrophysics (completed prior to start date).
  • Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python and general coding, familiarity with scientific data analysis, basic physics knowledge, particularly in classical mechanics, electromagnetism, and introductory quantum concepts.
  • PREFERRED Qualifications: Experience with astronomical data analysis or high-energy astrophysics, familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting, experience using HEASoft or other astronomical software packages, strong written and oral communication skills.
