Primary Responsibilities
- Research and Data Analysis (Core Function)
- Perform reduction, analysis, and interpretation of X-ray observations using HEASoft and related software tools.
- Conduct X-ray spectral and timing analysis of accreting neutron stars.
- Develop and utilize Python-based analysis workflows and shell scripting tools.
- Ensure high-quality, reproducible scientific results that directly support ongoing funded research projects.
Scholarly Contributions
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to contextualize findings.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, conference presentations, and technical reports.
- Aid in communicating research results to the broader scientific community.
Research Group Participation & Student Support
- Actively participate in group meetings and collaborative discussions.
- Support undergraduate student researchers in their projects as needed.
- Contribute to maintaining research continuity and group productivity.
Professional Development & Outreach
- Travel to and present research findings at professional conferences, workshops, or collaborative meetings.
- Aid in strengthening and promoting astrophysics research at ERAU.
- Develop clear, reusable documentation on X-ray data analysis methods to support future student researchers and enhance program sustainability.
Qualifications
- Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Astrophysics (completed prior to start date).
- Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python and general coding, familiarity with scientific data analysis, basic physics knowledge, particularly in classical mechanics, electromagnetism, and introductory quantum concepts.
- PREFERRED Qualifications: Experience with astronomical data analysis or high-energy astrophysics, familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting, experience using HEASoft or other astronomical software packages, strong written and oral communication skills.
