Part-Time Response Advocate

About the Role

Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response® (STAR®) supports survivors of sexual trauma, improves systems response, and creates social change to end sexual violence. The Part-Time Response Advocate (PTRA) provides support and advocacy for survivors of sexual trauma, primarily through accompaniment to local hospitals for forensic medical exams and/or law enforcement accompaniment. This role requires availability on holidays, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Survivor Accompaniment
  • Respond to hospital and/or law enforcement call-outs during business and after-hours to provide support and accompaniment in medical and/or legal settings.
  • Provide comprehensive crisis intervention to primary survivors of sexual assault.
  • Ensure survivors' rights are upheld and educate them on the criminal justice process, including interpreting jargon used by professionals.
  • Connect survivors with additional community services as needed, including safety planning, transportation, and emergency shelter.
• Documentation and File Management
  • Accurately document all accompaniments.
  • Clock in and out using the organization's timekeeping system.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, monthly check-ins, and 1-1 meetings with the Survivor Response Manager.
  • Submit monthly mileage and reimbursement documentation.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Submit mandated reports to DCFS and law enforcement as required by Louisiana law.
• Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of one year of experience providing direct crisis intervention and/or survivor advocacy, with knowledge of the criminal justice field.
• Understanding of the demands of providing crisis services to survivors of sexual trauma, both via phone and in-person support.
• Ability to travel throughout the branch service area and availability for after-hours calls and accompaniment requests.

• Strong ethical standards, respect for confidentiality, and effective communication with diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to secure and deploy resources effectively, build strong relationships, and deliver survivor-centric solutions.
• Strong writing skills and ability to maintain quality documentation free of errors.
• Professionalism with clients and co-workers, self-awareness of personal limitations, and ability to ask for help when needed.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, and respond to shifting priorities.
• Commitment to professional and personal growth.
• Consent to and successful completion of a full background investigation, including criminal history check and fingerprinting.
• Commitment to obtaining hospital clearance, including drug tests and vaccinations, for hospitals where STAR provides accompaniment.
• Completion of 40 hours of mandatory sexual violence training within the first year of employment, plus 20 hours of continuing education annually.
• Valid driver's license and a working, insured vehicle required at the time of appointment.

Pay

$10 per shift; $20 per hour for direct service, including travel to/from hospitals, monthly team meetings, and documentation. Minimum of 8 shifts per month.
