Part Time Crisis and Services Advocate

The Salvation Army Anew Center provides services in Chautauqua County including the Residential Domestic Violence Program-Agnes Home, the Non-Residential Domestic Violence Program, and the Rape Crisis Program.

About the role

The Crisis Services Advocate position exists to assist the Shelter Manager and the Anew Center Program Director in the delivery of Anew Center programs and services.

Responsibilities

• Read and follow The Salvation Army Employee Handbook and the Anew Center policy and procedure manual.
• Initial approval of client admission into shelter according to policy and procedure, including completing appropriate intake information and the DHHS application.
• Provide care for shelter residents to ensure safety and basic needs are met.
• Enforce shelter rules according to policy and procedure.
• Maintain cleanliness of the shelter and resident rooms, including sorting donations, laundry, and organizing supplies.
• Assist in food preparation and housekeeping duties as necessary.
• Answer the Domestic Violence/Rape Crisis phone lines, including the 24-hour hotline.
• Assess needs, offer information and referrals, and provide crisis intervention to clients in shelter and/or contacting the hotline.
• Conduct a “walk through” of shelter throughout each shift.
• Complete service reports, track statistics, and handle all other assigned paperwork.
• Provide Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence emergency advocacy and accompaniment services after completing required training.
• Attend a minimum of 10 hours of trainings annually.
• Transport clients to shelter and various appointments as directed.
• Ensure compliance with fire and safety procedures.
• Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Communicate pertinent information relevant to program operations to immediate supervisor and/or Program Director.
• Attend staff meetings, educational and training seminars as directed.
• Participate in agency events upon request.
• Serve as a Mandated Reporter and report any incidents of child abuse/neglect to the assigned Response Team staff member and the mandated reporter hotline.
• Understand that meals will be on-the-job with no meal period deducted from shift hours; off-the-clock meal breaks require advance arrangements and documentation.
• Be available for shift coverage as needed due to 24-hour service requirements.
• Perform additional responsibilities as directed by supervisors.

Requirements

• Must satisfactorily complete sexual assault training to become a certified rape crisis counselor.
• Must have a valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
• Must have computer/typing skills for completing statistics, maintaining case files, and email communication.
• Must be able to climb stairs and carry supplies to and from upper levels of the building.

Part-time position with the understanding that coverage for other shifts may be required due to 24-hour service needs.
