Response Team Outreach Advocate (Part-Time) - Circle Program
JOB SUMMARY
Sycamores is a contracted provider with The City of Los Angeles, Mayor's Office of Community Safety, to operate the CIRCLE program, which addresses non-urgent LAPD calls related to unhoused individuals. The CIRCLE team provides outreach and engagement to persons in need, integrating with LACDMH’s behavioral health crisis responders for more intensive support.
About the role
The Response Team Outreach Advocate works alongside a supervisor to provide outreach and engagement to individuals experiencing homelessness in the San Fernando Valley. They also respond to referrals from three LAPD departments and utilize the agency vehicle to assist community members in crisis. The advocate provides stabilization interventions, advocates for client needs, and consults on community resources.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-scene consultation to consumers regarding community resources, crisis intervention, and available services.
- Engage with individuals experiencing homelessness through outreach and engagement.
- Respond to referrals from three LAPD departments and provide assistance using the agency vehicle.
- Offer stabilization interventions and advocate for client voice and choice.
- Consult on community resources and crisis intervention.
- Provide in-person assessments for psychiatric hospitalization needs, collaborating with LACDMH’s Field Intervention Teams (FIT).
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma or equivalent degree.
- One year of job-related experience conducting street outreach to persons experiencing homelessness, preferably with lived experience in homelessness, substance abuse, or criminal justice involvement.
- Self-identified experience with the process of recovery from a mental illness or substance use disorder, either as a consumer or a family member.
- A minimum of two (2) years of continuous sobriety prior to employment, with ongoing sobriety required.
- A valid California driver’s license.
- An acceptable driving record as determined by Agency policy.
- Proof of auto insurance meeting minimum coverage requirements.

- Ability to manage and de-escalate consumers/residents.
- Frequent driving in the community with consumers.
- Physical demands include frequent/continuous intermittent standing/walking, occasional/intermittent sitting, reaching at or above shoulder level, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
- Lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Continuous use of near vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills.

Pay
$33.80 - $34 per hour (starting pay will be based on previous work experience and educational background).
Schedule
Saturday and Sunday 6 am - 2:30 pm.
