St. Mary Academy – Bay View seeks a part-time Reading Interventionist to support the academic growth and reading confidence of Lower School students in Grades 1–5. This position is one (1) day per week (up to 8 hours). Rooted in the Mercy tradition of excellence, compassion, and the empowerment of girls, the Reading Interventionist provides targeted instruction and evidence-based interventions for students who require additional support in reading and writing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide small-group and individualized reading and writing intervention for students who need additional support in foundational reading and writing skills.
  • Use diagnostic assessments and progress-monitoring tools to identify learning gaps and develop targeted intervention plans.
  • Provide targeted instruction in key reading skill areas aligned with the Science of Reading.
  • Differentiate lessons to meet diverse learning needs, learning styles, strengths, and interests.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of individual service plans and student support plans.
  • Support students in building confidence, perseverance, and a positive reading and writing identity.
  • Partner with classroom teachers to analyze student data and identify instructional next steps.
  • Support teachers in implementing effective evidence-based literacy strategies and interventions within the classroom.
  • Assist in designing lessons that promote rich mathematical thinking and discourse.
  • Provide recommendations for accommodations and enrichment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and student support team meetings.
  • Administer screeners, benchmark assessments, and ongoing formative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress and intervention outcomes.
  • Interpret assessment results to evaluate intervention effectiveness and make data-informed instructional decisions.
  • Use data to adjust instruction and to frequently communicate progress to teachers, administrators, and families.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Science of Reading certification required.
  • Orton-Gillingham certification preferred.
  • Experience working as a Reading Interventionist or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with students who have reading difficulties.
  • Experience with evidence-based reading intervention programs and strategies.
  • Familiarity with a variety of reading assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of current literacy research and intervention practices.

Schedule

Part-time, one (1) day per week (up to 8 hours).
