Essential Job Functions

  • Aid The Prospectus staff with developing creative strategies, planning initiatives, and identifying opportunities to generate revenue through print publications, digital content, advertising, sponsorships, and other online platforms.
  • Utilize digital media tools, including Mac desktop technology and GarageBand, to support podcast production, audio editing, and content development.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to coordinate video production, YouTube content creation, and digital storytelling strategies that expand the reach and engagement of Student Life initiatives and The Prospectus.
  • Provide training/orientation for student editors, reporters, and podcast staff, including coordinating with the Prospectus Supervisor to schedule guest speakers.
  • Collaborate with student editors on editing, provide feedback to reporters, determine story selection, and place stories.
  • Advising student editors, reporters, and podcast staff on matters of media law, ethics, news gathering/reporting techniques, interviewing, APA writing, style, and podcast tips.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Prospectus Supervisor faculty advisor for design to assist students in producing a quality publication both in print and online.
  • Act as liaison between Prospectus staff and Student Services, Parkland administration, and faculty/staff who have questions or suggestions about the digital newspaper and podcast.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree with at least two (2) years of related work experience or combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to manage confidential materials judiciously, and in accordance with FERPA and other higher education laws.
  • Demonstrated excellence with Microsoft Office Suite applications and database management and the ability to learn Parkland information systems and new programs as technology changes.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate accurately and effectively verbally and in writing with diverse constituent groups.
  • Excellent time management skills, as evidenced by the ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

Benefits

The position offers an hourly rate of $28.00 and is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hours per week appointment based in Champaign, Illinois. Applications are accepted until the position is filled.
