Part-Time Political Science Instructor (Pool)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay

Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based on education and credited experience. Initial placement ranges:

• Lab Course (Salary Schedule HB): $89.20 – $130.94 per hour
• Lecture Course (Salary Schedule HC): $103.85 – $151.07 per hour

Schedule

Semester assignments as needed; day and evening classes offered.

Responsibilities

• Teach classes as assigned from the regular Political Science Department curriculum
• Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
• Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies
• Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs

Requirements

Master’s or higher in political science, government, or international relations OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s or higher in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, any ethnic studies, Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.), or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) OR the equivalent.

Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

• Degree Equivalence: A degree with similar content to those listed, where the degree title or coursework differs slightly.

  • Detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor (e.g., coursework required for the degree major)

Knowledge

• Political science and recent successful experience in teaching or preparation to teach college-level courses in the discipline
• Teaching methods that emphasize cooperation, collaboration, and active learning, encouraging independent, creative learners with higher-order thinking skills
• Use of technology in teaching
