About the role

The Physics Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers from our local geographic area. Positions are available as determined by need during the Fall and/or Spring semester of the 2026-27 academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory classes in Astronomy, Geology, Physics and Physical Science.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Physics, Geology or a related field is required.
  • Doctoral degree in Physics, Geology or a related field is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department.
  • Classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are provided in the Responsibilities section.

Skills

  • Ability to teach undergraduate physics courses.
  • Experience teaching astronomy, geology, geophysics, and oceanography.

About the Department

The Physics Department has approximately 50 faculty, whose primary function is teaching undergraduate physics courses to students in technical disciplines. We offer programs of study leading to Bachelor Degrees in Physics, with approximately 200 majors currently enrolled. We also offer courses in astronomy, geology, geophysics, and oceanography.
