Part-Time Lecturer Pool - Oceanography & Natural Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Oceanography) (AY 26/27)
About the role
The Department of Oceanography and Natural Sciences (OcNS) at Cal Poly (Solano Campus) invites applications for a pool of part-time lecturers from our local geographic area. Positions are available as determined by need during the Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2026–27 academic year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base.
Responsibilities
- Teaching undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory courses in: Chemistry: General Chemistry (I and II) and related foundational courses
Physics: Algebra-based and calculus-based general physics sequences, including courses for engineers
Oceanography: Introductory and upper-division courses across all subdisciplines, including physical, chemical, biological, and geological oceanography
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Oceanography, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate lecture and/or laboratory courses.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: General Chemistry sequences, Calculus-based Physics for engineers, Oceanography (physical, chemical, biological, or geological).
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Oceanography, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field is preferred.
Skills

Pay
Education Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211

About The Department
The Department of Oceanography and Natural Sciences (OcNS) is located at Cal Poly’s Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA. The department brings together faculty with expertise in ocean science, chemistry, and physics to support interdisciplinary teaching and learning. OcNS administers the Bachelor of Science in Oceanography and provides foundational instruction in chemistry and physics for students across the university. Faculty are committed to excellence in undergraduate education and to Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy, emphasizing hands-on, experiential learning in both laboratory and field settings. Through its curriculum and programs, the department prepares students for careers in science, education, and industry, as well as for advanced study in oceanography and related disciplines.
