Part-Time Lecturer Pool in Early Childhood Education Credential Program

About the role

The Department of Teacher Education invites applications for a pool of part-time teaching appointments in the Early Childhood Education Credential (ECEC) Program. Candidates selected may be asked to teach a variety of courses in the program, including, but not limited to, literacy, STEM, social justice in education, classroom management, family communication, and clinical practice supervision, with a strong emphasis on play-based strategies and developmentally appropriate practices.

Responsibilities

• Teach a variety of courses in the ECEC Program, including literacy, STEM, social justice in education, classroom management, family communication, and clinical practice supervision.
• Emphasize play-based strategies and developmentally appropriate practices in all courses.
• Work closely with students in clinical practice settings to provide feedback and support.
• Mentor and supervise student teachers in various PK-3 grade levels.

Requirements

• A M.A. degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or equivalent.
• A minimum of three years of highly successful teaching experience in P-3 grades.
• A valid California Teaching Credential, Child Development Preschool Site Supervisor Permit, or equivalent from another state.
• An authorization to teach English learners (CLAD, BCLAD, etc).
• Prior experience in teacher supervision or in mentoring teachers.
• Detailed knowledge of the California Teacher Performance Expectations for PK-3.
• Detailed knowledge of the California Content Standards for all subjects.
• A California driver’s license and transportation to get to the assigned schools.
• Able to maintain positive relationships with adult learners, school administrators, and teachers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to speak, read, and write a second language.
• Administrative experience at a school site.
• Training on the California Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA).
• Five years of teaching experience, preferably in various PK-3 grade levels.
• Experience delivering teacher training, including modeling lessons for teachers.
• Prior higher education experience in teacher preparation or coursework development.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT AND THE COLLEGE

The Department of Teacher Education offers professional teacher credentialing programs in Single Subject (secondary education), Multiple Subject (elementary education) and Education Specialist, Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe credential. Credential programs have developed a strong partnership with neighboring schools where students do fieldwork and take many credential courses. All programs have accreditation from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).
